In the state of California, all security guards are required to be licensed and registered with BSIS to work as security guards. California requires you to be at least 18 years or older, go through a criminal background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ) and with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). BSIS also requires you to complete an additional 32- hour course of security guard training as well as completing an annual refresher course.
TGS offers a basic guard card training course to get you on your way to obtaining your guard card.
Part 1
This is an 8-hours training course, (4 hours covering Powers to Arrest and 4 hours covering Weapons of Mass Destruction). Our Guard Card Training class is $50.00
** TGS will have Live Scan available on site for the cost of 72.00 (Live Scan Fee) and will have access to the BSIS website to process your application for a “one stop shop” convenience. BSIS application fee is $55.00 and is payable at the time you complete your online registration. **
Once you receive your BSIS issued guard card in the mail, this will allow you to start working as a security guard while you continue to complete part 2 and 3 of your training.
Part 2
This 16-hour course needs to be completed within 30 days of the Part 1 course and will cover Public Relations, Report Writing, Communication, and Liability / Legal Aspects.
Part 3
This is an additional 16 hours of training that will need to be completed within 6 months from completing the part 2 course and will include Arrest Search / Seizure, Post Orders / Assignments, Trespassing, and Crowd Control.
Annual Refresher, Continuing Education Course
In order to be compliant with BSIS, an 8-hour annual refresher, continuing education course is required. BSIS will need a current and valid address on file to ensure you receive the renewal registration notice. The renewal notices are mailed out approximately 90 days before the current registration is set to expire and they will need 60 days prior to the guard card expiration date to allow sufficient time to process the renewal. Triton Global Services offers the refresher course at our Ontario, Ca., training facility.
